One of my Helenmay Crochet Special Donor Members requested a Crochet PDF written pattern for Fusako’s Crochet Lucky Cat.  One of the many benefits of being a Special Donor Member is that you get to request a written pattern from one of my YouTube video tutorials. I was happy to see that she requested Fusako’s Crochet Lucky Cat, which has a very special meaning for me personally. Fusako is my mother. I consider myself the “Lucky Cat,” because she is my mother. I consider Fusako a rebel because she wasn’t a follower who just did what she was told. Everyone, including her family, told her to stay away from the dashing American soldier, but she followed her heart and went on the difficult journey to a distant land away from her friends and family.  That took a LOT of courage, and it was never easy for her!!! I am here because of her, and I feel her strong spirit inside of me every day! I am an American, through and through, and my mother has given me a unique perspective regarding race, ethnicity, culture, and stereotypes. I love you mom! I can feel you smiling from heaven!

If you are going to make my crochet Lucky Cats, I would recommend using Caron Simply Soft yarns. If you use a different style of yarn, you may have to make adjustments for the head. While writing the pattern, I may use a different yarn style, and I will let you know the differences if I do.

Fleece Blanket with a Crochet Clam Shell Border

20181029_092341.jpg

I spoke with a lady from one of the local yarn groups that meet weekly. She said that she was interested in hearing about the #snowballexpress charity. So, I went to one of their meetings. I printed up information about the #snowballexpress charities goal of collecting blankets for the children next year 2019. I also printed up information about my random free giveaway for the charity.

If you would like to make a blanket to send to the charity, here is the direct link:

I answered all of their questions about what the charity was all about. One lady pulled out a fleece blanket with a crochet border and asked if she could send something like that. I said sure, because it met the blanket guidelines. I decided to add the fleece blanket crochet border video tutorial to my list of blankets eligible for my giveaway.  Sarah commented on my Facebook page about it and shared a picture of her beautiful fleece blanket with a crochet border. She said that she wanted to make one for the charity and participate in my giveaway. I also got a response from Susie and Claudia. So, I decided to add one more prize to the giveaway because I know that a lot of crocheters donate their time and materials to a lot of charities. I added one $100 gift card from Joanns craft store, Hobby Lobby, or Michaels craft store to the random free prizes.

When I saw Sarah’s beautiful fleece blanket with a crochet border, I decided to make one myself and made a new YouTube video tutorial showing how to make the Crochet Clam Shell Border.

I was going to write patterns for a local yarn store, but I realized that I probably wouldn’t be a good fit for the yarn store. A lot of the people at the yarn store were primarily knitters and a lot of them crochet too. As most of you know, I am in love with crochet, but I have a deep admiration for knitters. I just chose to stay with crochet. Anyway, that means that I prefer bargain basement yarns from the main craft stores. That doesn’t mean that I don’t like to still go to the local yarn stores, because they sell quality/unique yarns. I just realized that I wasn’t the right fit because I don’t go there frequently. Back to my story, I was talking to the nice people at the yarn store, and I showed them this crochet flower design. The holes were too big for a regular baby blanket, but we were in love with the flower pattern that I designed. So, they suggested putting a receiving blanket on the reverse side, and that is how this crochet Flower of My Heart Security Baby Blanket came to be. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I have.
