SECOND PLACE: Julie Major
Julie Major made more than one beautiful Crochet Siberian Husky Dog, and you can see all of her picture entries below, but this picture of her large crochet Siberian Husky Dog had the most impact for me. Her large crochet Siberian Husky Dog is HUGE! She received a lot of comments from family/friends about how real it looks, and I have to agree. Also, notice that the whole dog is covered with soft fur-like yarn. It took extra love and detail to get this life-like fur look for her crochet Siberian Husky Dog! I absolutely love the gorgeous tail too! She even put details into the crochet paws. Gorgeous work Julie Major! Julie Major scored high points for Technical Difficulty, Originality/Creativity, and Photography for this crochet dog, which is definitely an heirloom treasure!!
Her second-place prize package: Totaling a value of $143.50 (Original prices quoted): 1 plastic 2 tiered storage box $22, 2 skeins “I Love this Cotton” yarn $6.50, 1 skein Alpaca yarn $21, 1 Craft wire 12g $4.50, 3 animal safety noses $.50, 1 container of white beads $4, 1 antique purse snap $6.50, 1 small travel scissors $6, 1 small leather label $4, 1 pair Fab Lab Safety doll eyes 12mm, 1 pair Fab Lab Safety Doll eyes 10mm, 1 pair Fab Lab Safety Doll eyes 15mm, Fab Lab Safety Doll eyes totaling $7.50, Buttons totaling $3, 1 Alpaca ball of fur keychain $25, 1 skein 50% alpaca, 25% Merino, and 25% Bamboo silk $21, Assortment of charms totaling $12.

Third Place: Abbey McCabe (Permission granted to enter by her father Ryan McCabe)
I was very impressed with this crochet large Siberian Husky Dog!! Let us forget for a moment that Abbey needed permission from her father to enter the contest. Let us also forget that she is self-taught. Now, let us look at her crochet large Siberian Husky Dog picture entry. She has other pictures entered of this same crochet dog from different angles, which you can see below with all of the other picture entries. First of all, I am impressed with her use of Pipsqueak yarn. Most adults are constantly telling me that they can’t crochet with this yarn, because basically, you can’t see the stitches as you crochet. Not only did Abbey crochet with the yarn, but look at how straight the edges of her Pipsqueak yarn borders are (Remember that the Pipsqueak yarn is also behind the snout, and on the sides of the face too)! I also like how she embroidered with the Pipsqueak yarn to create a fur-like look around the eyes and ears of her crochet dog. She even used the Pipsqueak yarn to get the signature look of a Siberian Husky Dog; which is the white line between the eyes that a lot of black and white Siberian Husky Dogs have. Also, her crochet dog is in perfect alignment and meticulously sewn together. Some of the other things that impressed me: Her crochet stitches were very neatly made and without gaps, the tail for the dog has pipsqueak yarn and was meticulously made, she used the crochet wave stitch for the collar, and she made the difficult mouth, as well as claws for the paws. Abbey scored very high points for Technical Difficulty, she received points for creativity/originality for her use of embroidered pipsqueak yarn around the eyes and ears, and the photography helped show me the crochet details for her crochet Siberian Husky Dog. Very, Very impressive crochet work Abbey McCabe.
Her third-place prize package: Totaling a value of $89 (Original prices quoted): 1 plastic 2 tiered storage box $22, 2 skeins of “I Love this Cotton” yarn $6.50, 1 skein Alpaca yarn $21, 1 craft wire 12g $4.50, 3 animal safety noses $.50, 1 small leather label $4, 1 pair Fab Lab safety Doll eyes 12mm, 1 pair Fab Lab Safety Doll eyes 10mm, 1 pair Fab Lab safety Doll eyes 15mm, Fab Lab Safety Doll eyes totaling $7.50, Buttons totaling $3, 1 skein Disco yarn 92% superwash Merino and 8% Lurey $17, assortment of charms totaling $3.
Abbey McCabe will also receive a surprise gift package similar to the one shown in the picture above, which contains a limited edition Furls Crochet Streamline Hook and miscellaneous craft supplies (These may vary slightly from package to package). Both prize packages will arrive separately in the mail. Ryan McCabe, you can contact me through my blog if you would like the tracking number for Abbey McCabe’s packages. 🙂
